Cultural Heritage:

The cultural values, the religious values, historical, political, Social and ethnological, these all are attributes of human beings. Therefore the Manas National Park has been inseparated from the psyche of the local people. Manas have a great diversity of cultural heritage of different communities.

A major percentage of the total population being of ‘Bodo’ tribe who comprise 47% to 65% of the population in the individual villages which followed by other communities like Assamese, Bengali, Nepalese, Rabha-Hasang, Koch-Rajbonshi and a negligible number of Adivasis. Besides, minority community such as Muslims also inhabits the area.

The science spot Mathanguri owes its name due to the typical proximity of an old “Math” (a kind of hindu Temple). The Manas has a Bhutanese name; Dang-Me -Chu though lost in antiquity the name “Manah” (not Manas as is usually known) is derived from Assamese word ‘Man’ meaning the Burmese army during 18-19th Century as ‘Man’ raided Assam for 3 times spreading terror. The river ‘Manah’ was the western limit of Burmese advance (Man + ‘Ah’-meaning to come) & thus the river gets in name ‘Manah’
